Getting Started
What attracts people to scuba dive, anyway?
What attracts people to scuba dive, anyway? Just what is it that makes people go into a foreign world you ask!
First, there's no greater personal adventure than diving! The underwater world is full of beauty, wonder, excitement and danger. It's ever-changing and always offers something new, fascinating or challenging. Whether your scuba interest are the casual pastime or the obsession - diving offers something for everyone.
Ok, so that's the why! Now how do we get started?
Your first step is earning your NAUI Scuba Diver Certification.
Getting Your "C-Card"
Becoming what is commonly known as a "certified diver."
Becoming a certified diver consists of two phases:
- Academic/Confined-Water Training
- Open Water Training
Orientation
To get started, you'll meet with either one of our staff instructors or Jerry for your scuba orientation. During this initial orientation we will answer questions about your training. We will also review your class schedule.
Decide which class schedule best fits your needs and review the necessary enrollment forms. A small deposit will reserve your place in class.
Academic/Confined-Water Training
(4 sessions)
In the classroom we discuss the fundamentals of scuba diving, including self- or buddy-rescue, gas management, decompression and both the direct and indirect effects of pressure.
In our heated, full-size pool, your instructor will demonstrate and have you practice diving's fundamental skills. Like all aspects of learning to dive, pool sessions are fun and enjoyable. They increase your comfort level and make the transition to open-water diving easier.
When you've completed your academic and confined-water training, you'll be ready for the final and most important phase of earning your entry-level diver certification: your open-water training dives.
Open Water Training
The NAUI way. Open water training consists of Five dives conducted over two days. Each of the Five dives consists of the opportunity to apply the skills you mastered in the pool.
All dives will be approximately 35-45 minutes. Each dive will require exiting the water for surface intervals to log dives and demonstrate proper decompression techniques. All dives will include knowledge and demonstration of basic dive planning, including breathing gas management.
During your OW training you'll learn some great TIPS on Natural Navigation, buoyancy control and rescue. A final guided dive under the supervision of your instructor using a navigational compass will complete your Basic Scuba training.
Once you've completed your academic/confined and open-water training, you'll be awarded your scuba diver's C-Card, your ticket to a lifetime of diving adventure.
